SPEAKER
Former VP Clancy Fauntleroy introduced guest speakers Don Hersam and John Kovach, publisher and editor of the NC Advertiser respectively. Don provided a brief history of the Advertiser, which was founded in 1908 by his grandfather. In 1997 the Advertiser joined with Acorn to form Hersam-Acorn the largest weekly newspaper group in Fairfield County. Don stated that the paper belongs to the people and that the role of the staff is to shepherd it. John Kovach briefly highlighted issues confronting NC, such as the new HS, administration building, and selection of a state representative, before providing the following answers to questions: Junk mail cannot be removed from the Advertiser - "it is part of the times". Home delivery is not an option with only one newsboy. The Advertiser circulation list is not for sale. The request to publish building permits will be looked into. The Advertiser will do an article on the HS tours; the public is encouraged to take a tour. Minutes of Town meetings are available in the Town Clerks office, and the Town of NC web site will publish meeting schedules, etc. Letters to the editor should be limited in length, and letters received are generally printed. As requested Community coffee meetings will now be held at 2pm on Friday. Facts tend to get distorted in town matters. When asked if the Advertiser could sort out the facts, Don said he would ask God!
