SPEAKER: A.J. Cady of The International Animal Welfare Fund. Gave us a review of this worldwide organization. Founded in 1969, it has offices in 16 countries and rescues both wild and domestic animals from oil spills, other natural disasters, and pet owner degradation. We were shown many pictures such as Right Whales tangled in fishing ropes, Canadian seals where annual slaughters have stopped, South African penguins caught in an oil spill. The organization tries to use local workers in each of 60 countries so that local citizens are involved in the rescue efforts. Many of the saved wild animals are banded before being released so that they can be tracked wherever they go afterward. A program has been underway on Cape Cod to free the many beached whales and dolphins. They have a large well trained crew which can be on the spot on a timely basis. The driving force of this effective organization is to save animals of many species for future generations.
