The publishers have acquired a number of other local papers, mostly in Connecticut and also expanded their web presence. The current sft economy is causing some minor problems with less advertising and fewer pages. The newest change is to limit the number of words on a published letter to the editor. They try to give local news in a balanced non-prejudiced way. There is an emergency web site, ncadvertiser.com. Current circulation is almost 8,000 copies, with almost 100% coverage of the town. The decision to put Art’s and Leisure after classified ads was a high level decision, not approved by John. Many questions on additional coverage of Hartford news were explained by space and lack of funds to have a permanent reporter at the Capital. Changes in New Canaan over the past 15 years include, more minor crime, bigger homes close to town and neighboring town news on the website.
